Chris Sampson SWAc

Bristolian Chris Sampson holds a BA hons from Cardiff College of Art where he was a student of Fine Art. After undertaking a post graduate qualification in art-education at the University of Wales he moved to live in Cornwall and was soon to become established as a teacher of art. He became second in the art department of one of the country's largest community colleges, in Devon, before assuming the role of tutor to trainee art-teachers from the University of Exeter School of Education.

Chris found a symbiotic relationship between teaching and painting but was able to devote more time to the latter after leaving formal teaching in 2006.

His work has always been rooted in the act of painting itself, with it's ongoing challenge to achieve a level of understanding and mastery of all it involves.

Subject matter is borne out of experience, contemplation and observation of the environment and the wish to evoke and share an emotional response with the observer.
