Keith Stott SWAc

Keith is a Yorkshireman by birth and trained as a Wool Textile Technologist and Designer with a speciality in furnishing fabrics, a career which took him to work in India and, subsequently, Pakistan.

He has always had a love of wild places, since wandering as a boy on the Pennine moors and eventually seizing the opportunity to spend time mountaineering in the Himalaya, both in India and Pakistan. Thus it was inevitable that a love of Dartmoor would result from a move to South Devon, over thirty years ago and the Moor still provides his main inspiration since a move to Shaftesbury in 2013.

His interest in painting probably originated with this father, who was an amateur watercolourist. Ironically, an early wish to study art was not approved.

He has painted exclusively in soft pastel for the past eighteen years, a medium in which he is self-taught and which he enjoys pushing to its limit.

He tutors monthly weekend workshops at Harbour House in Kingsbridge, where he has twice been Artist in Residence. In addition, he tutors workshops in Shaftesbury Arts Centre and also weekly with ArtsLink in Sherborne, as well as Art Societies throughout the South west. Young people with their A level exams and University projects in view come to him for extra tuition and guidance.

Keith is represented by Davidson Fine Art in Totnes, with whom he has been since the Gallery opened ten years ago and where he held a one-man show in 2008. He has exhibited widely, including the SWAc Open Exhibitions, and at Delamore and Thelma Hulbert Gallery. He was awarded the Derwent Award at Patchings International Exhibition. His work also appeared in The Artist’s Garden and Great British Landscapes at Rosemoor; Dartmoor Artists at Ashburton; and with the Eeles Family Potters in the Shaftesbury Arts Centre every Christmas.
