Young Artists
The Academy is committed to art education and offers a series of workshops for young people and children in schools in the South West. SWAc’s Education Officer, former headmaster Nic George collaborates with art teachers and schools on various projects. In 2025, life-size fibre glass donkeys were sponsored by local businesses and painted by children which were then showcased on the lawns at Kennaway House, Sidmouth during SWAc’s annual Open Exhibition. After the exhibition the Donkeys were transported to their new homes, including to the Donkey Sanctuary where they can still be seen. SWAc thanks all who participated in bringing this education project to life including Sidmouth Town Council.
2026 the project is ‘healthy eating’ looking at paintings by past masters up to the present day with materials supplied by Cowling and Wilcox and vegetable boxes by Greendale Farm Shop. Sponsorship has also been granted by Arts Culture East Devon.
In 2019, the prizewinning works linked to the theme of 'our world' were exhibited at the Open Exhibition and the winners were able to meet with Baroness Floella Benjamin OBE DL at the Private Reception.
